ASCII, Binary, CHMOD?

I have to use the safe mode install. I have not seen any instructions as to what mode to upload each of the files/folders and what CHMOD the folders get. As you know, the safe mode download has 6 folders and 15 files. (Each of the folders contains more files too.)

Where do I upload each of the files/folders? (For YaBB 1 Gold, you had a CGI-BIN folder and a www/ folder).

What mode do each of the files get uploaded in?

What's the CHMOD for each of the folders?

WHY IS THERE NO INSTALL DIRECTIONS AT LEAST CONTAINING THIS MOST BASIC OF INFO???? (Not to mention that all you have to do to install is type the location of the install.php in your browser!)

Just upload all the files into wherever you want to install the message boards. Then run the installer via your web browser. The installer auto chmods, etc...

Install, is almost like YaBB 1 Gold's.

The good thing about the PHP version is that it can go anywhere. (that your host lets you put .php files) so you can make a directory called community or YaBB in your main web folder. So something like this:

usr/blah/blah/www/YaBB instead of usr/blah/blah/www/cgi-bin/YaBB

Upload everything as it came from the .zip file, (everything can go in one folder) but upload all images in BINARY mode, and then upload everything else in ASCII mode. and for CHMOD'ing, Ted said it. the installer.php will do it all.

and when ur done, remove the installer.php/converter.php

On some hosts that chmodding doesn't seem to work. If it doesn't chmod all files to 666 and all directories to 777, that will fix it :)

for the first error, make sure your the dir your board is in is CHMOD'ed to 777. make a file called settings.bak if it doesnt already exist in your board dir. make sure its CHMOD'ed to 777

now it also looks like your host may have an older version of PHP. You can check your version by reading the following: http://www.yabb.info/community/index.php?board=135;action=display;threadid=3127

I'm just looking at the file permissions that the installer gave and it gives all most of the php files -rw-rw-rw- (666) is there any reason to allow all other users on the system to be able to modify the php?

hrm........ Is there not a workaround for this (I'm thinking for YaBBSE not for my paticular case) for example couldn't the mod updater chmod all the files to 666 when it was modding and then revert it back when it was finished. It doesn't seem like a good idea to always let everyone modify the source.

Though I don't run NT for any web servers. File permissions would still be a concern I'm.
