think about a dynamic naming system - look at how games like diablo name items and assign properties to those items in relation to names.

it'd require a few extra tables, or maybe just a few arrays and some hardcoding - but it wouldnt be hard to generate 'random' items. also consider grabbing some graphics for items (www.rpgicons.com has some cool 'mini' icons taken from other games) which you might like to adopt.

if you'd like to chat - give me a yell over an IM :) i'm registered on your site anyhow as well :P as i think i mentioned to you - i was going to write my own mod but since you're writing one saves me the hassle ;) *grins* if you need a hand with ideas look me up

regards,
G.

You could perhaps also let the admins/mods be able to name the craft items.

Okay, I need some input.  The mod is almost finished (with the attack routine being the only thing I can think of that needs to be written).

What I need to know is:

1)  What happens when a member is attacked and killed (Hit Points  = 0)?

2)  What consequnses would there be for being attacked, if any other than loosing HPs?

3)  What would the reward be for winning the battle (other than not dying)?

4)  Should some of the RPG Stats be hidden from other members?

Please let me know what you all think, so I can finish this and release it.  Also, soon I will need somebody to test the installation routine.  Any volunteers?

Thank you! :)

1)  I like Unknowns suggestion but it may lead to spam.  I suggest that when one dies he must go to the docters office and "buy" himself out.

2)  Your overall record.

3)  Cash, Experience, postive record.

4)  Yes.

Okay a brief update.  Yes finals are coming, and that is slowing my development time way down.  After next week though, I should have some more time to code YAY!

As for a status, I have a couple of bugs I need to work out, mainly selling equipment back, the function to regain HP/MP isn't working correctly (or at all), my percents are screwed up and need to figure out where those bogus numbers are coming from, I'm currently stuck on spells --  I am lacking insperation to come up with how in the world am I going to implement what spells and names for them, and there is a weird bug on my board that isn't allowing new members to read/post or do anything except log in.  I'm not sure if that is realted to my RPG mod or not, but I can't duplicate the problem.  I also need to figure out when and how to use MP.

Could you explain 'Overall record'?
I have changed some functions:  Gold is still earned strictly my word count, recovering HP and MP is now set on a timer (which you need another mod I've been working on called User History).

I have also created a reward system.  It is a crafting system.  Each time you are involved in a fight you get awards.  You collect these and put them together to make better equipment and spell items.

I'll let everybody know when I feel satisfied that it is all in working order.   But right now, I think there are way too many bugs to be relesased.  Plus, I still have to clean up the MOD file for distribution. :)

This mod sounds very interesting to me, I would love to try it when you release it.

1. When a member dies, their money should be given up to the attacker, and like Unknown said, they must post a little before coming back to life.

2. When attacked, lose HP, but also lose attack/defense power.

3. Reward for winning should be the loser's money and one item from the loser's "pouch."

4. Yes. Hide stats from dead members, and also hide from banned members.

If you want volunteers for this, I can easily set up a test board (might even become a real board) for the mod. Let me know.

Also, if this is a Boardmod file, I don't have BoardMod, and for some reason, it won't download and install on my PC, so if you can YaBBPak it, that would be great. 8)

Okay, I like the overall record idea!

I can also do the losing money thing without much problem.  The taking items out of the losers' inventory, could be a bit tricky though, especially if the user doesn't have anything anymore.

Taking away from Attack / Defense could be really tricky, but I think I can do it.

I would make it a YabbPak, but I have no idea how to build a YabbPak, and no idea how to install a YabbPak (all the ones I tried didn't install for whatever reason). :(

Ok, well do both formats for now.  Yabb mod and Yabbpak.

This is an Mod not a whole forum right?  If you don't understand this is a modifaction that I would install to my board.  Or is it a forum that I would have to install?

oooh, I don't want to loose my members.
