Can someone install this thing?

I am so confused by this mysql stuff.  The installer doesn't work, but when I telnet in and try to make the database that way, it says it already exists.  So the installer must have made the database.

When I try to run the installer, it does this:

Warning: fopen("./Settings.php","w") - Permission denied in /home/httpd/atrakehner/YaBBSE/install.php on line 97

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/httpd/atrakehner/YaBBSE/install.php on line 99

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/httpd/atrakehner/YaBBSE/install.php on line 99

...and so on.

I had downloaded the "safe" version.  Should I download a different one?  Could that be the problem?

I have a Y1G that crashed about a month ago and am very anxious to try to make this work and get my board converted and running again.  Please help!

Do you have settings.php chmod'ed to 777?

No.  Where are the instructions on what to chmod everything to?  I can't find installation instructions for this.

I thought the chmod thing was not going to be a problem with SE?  The reason Y1G kept crashing is the new files it created (or wrote to) kept spontaneously changing their chmod settings.  I hope the same thing isn't going to happen with this!?

No, because it just uses a database...you still have to chmod the initial files if you are going to use the safe-mode zip.

Personally, if your server doesn't have safe-mode php, don't that version..

The instructions are sticky'ed in a post on the top of this forum.

Oh dear.

I chmoded stuff to 777 and installed again, but then it didn't want to work because the database was already out there with stuff in it.  So I picked a different name for my database and now it seems like it worked.  Now I have to figure out how to convert....

Can anyone give me the readers' digest version of how to get rid of the first database in mysql?  I cannot figure this telnet business out and my host keeps telling me to study the mysql and php documentation and I REALLY don't want to reinvent the wheel and learn that much about it.  Sorry, but it's not all laziness--this telnet stuff just makes my head swim!

Install phpmyadmin, and you should be able to delete it very easily, as you seem to be able to understand the basics of these things.  phpMyAdmin.
