Just ignore all the stuff about chmod, upload, ASCII, and Binary. You don't have to worry about that stuff since you are running it on localhost and your on a windows machine.

Go into your Apache directory and create a new directory called "yabbse" then copy all the files from the zip to it.

Then type this into your browser:

http://localhost/yabbse/install.php

Follow the steps to install YaBBSE, and don't hesitate to ask if you need help with the installation.

Use these values for those:

MySQL Server Name: localhost

MySQL Username: root

MySQL Database name: yabbse

MySQL Database prefix: yabbse_

And for the MySQL password, leave it blank, the password by default is not set.

Go into the directory you installed MySQL into. Then go into the bin directory.

Run the program called winmysqladmin.exe.

After it is opened you should see a traffic light in your task bar.

If the light is green, MySQL is on.
If the light is red, MySQL is off.

If it is off then click on the traffic light icon go into the go into either the "Win NT" menu and click "install the service". Go into the "Win NT" menu again and click "Start the Service".

No, when you "install the service" it makes it so MySQL starts automatically every time you restart you pc.

Let me add 2 more steps to that list though.

Click on the menu "Win NT" and click "ShutDown this Tool" to close that tool, you don't need that tool after you install it as a service.

Next you will want to delete the shortcut that was added in the Startup menu in the windows start menu that way the tool doesn't start every time you restart your pc.

It only adds that shortcut to that startup menu the first time you run the tool. So don't worry about the tool, it won't appear in the startup menu again after you delete it this time.

Well to do that you will have to modify your apache configuration and instead of using localhost you would have to use your ip... but this won't work if you have a random ip.

I can't really give you exact instructions on how to do this because I don't let my apache install be accessed by anyone other than me.(not by choice... my ISP would drop me if I let my apache be accessed by anyone other than localhost(me)).

Not that I know of.

But to edit the apache configuration you have to first go into the apache directory. Then into the conf directory. httpd.conf is the file you need to edit to change the configuration.

Be sure to back it up before you do anything to it, just incase.

Find this:
QuoteListen 80

And replace it with this:
QuoteListen ip_here:80

replace "ip_here" with your ip address.

Find this:
QuoteServerName localhost

And replace it with this:
QuoteServerName ip_here

replace "ip_here" with your ip address again.

Save it, then restart apache. It should in theory work now, I can't actually test it out myself because my ISP would drop me. But it "should" work.

Anyway, to access the board you would type this into your browser:

http://ip_here/yabbse/

You will need to open up the Settings.php file in the yabbse directory and change all the "localhost"'s in it to your ip.

It should be... although I am not positive because as I said, I can't really test this stuff out because my ISP would drop me.
