Well im a gamer, i wont deny that

I started this clan about months ago and have been soly coding what you might view as a kinda portal, but really its for gamers

The site is still under heavy construction next on the list is the news section

It does the following though

- Forum running YaBBSE 1.5.1 RC1
- Application to join the clan
- Roster
- Administration
--- Add games
--- Manage applications
--- Edit the site template

Once finished we were plannign to sell it to clans to get games servers, but if are after views on whats around maybe this will be of some interest to people

As you can see it will have the following sections too:
- News
- Downloads
- Links

Don't sell it. It is new yes, but it'll take months to get it to the selling point. If you want to sell it you're going to have to add about 100 more things to it as well.
FYI, you would not be able to include the YaBB SE with it if you sell it, as the YaBB SE runs under the GPL, meaning any part of the YaBB SE would have to be cut out of it.
Keep it free or keep it private would be the best thing to do I think...

Yes, you must distribute the source code for no charge.  You may however charge for the act of distributing it and for support.

Well the best part is it does not require YaBBSE to function... you can run it from any forum, or even without one, i have just choosen to use YaBBSE here, i also run a phpBB which it works fine with the aim was to allow upgrading of whichever forum it is using and thus mean you can upgrade the 2 independantly, however as you can see the YaBB forum we are using has now been heavily modded indepenantly.

And yes we have begun making a push to get the remaining sections working, i was just hoping some1 might get some ideas from what has been done.

Since is based on a GPL product (YaBBSE) you can't include it as part of a selling product

Once again, the GPL does not prevent you from selling support for a product.  You are fully allowed to sell a GPL product "bundled" with support for that product.  This is how RedHat is allowed to "sell" you a copy of Linux.  They technically only charge for "distribution and support" - even tho you cannot walk out of the store with a free copy of RH Linux.

This is why it is *very* important to read any license you are using when you develope software.  The GPL does not protect your software in any way except to make it illegal to distribute the software without your copyright on it.

Like i said its aimed at clans, but i have opted to really mix it into YaBBSE now, making modifications to show awards on the forums( and profiles ), minor post layout changes, and ability to have roll-over tables on the forum for links.

The news and news comments on the front page

Roster is due for an update next, then a major matches section is to be added for clan organisation ( our site is due for a brand new look soon too )

Use the GPL (if you want to include YaBB SE). That says (or so people say) they have to keep your copyright in.
So just allow people to download it and make sure you keep in the GPL

The only online game I play is Ghost Recon for XBox Live.
