I doubt this is possible because of the 2 different languages, but will you be able to upgrade a YaBB 1 Gold Perl board to a YaBB SE PHP board?  Also, PHP is faster then Perl with data processing right..?  So if I am seeing slow downs with the YaBB 1 Gold Perl version, it should be faster using YaBB SE PHP right?  Thanks.

Damnit!  Sorry, I didn't catch the post right under this one about upgrading... but the speed questions are still valid.  Sorry again about posting a topic that is already being discussed!

Well you'll have people argue the perl/php question you had but yes, SE should be faster than Y1G.

yes you will be able to upgrade Y1G to SE :)

Jeff - how does the upgrader script work? Does it just look at the cat files and import the relevant files, or does it import everything? i.e. I got a screwed up database due to a script crash, so I have a bunch of messages not indexed in the boards...

I'll respond to that...

right now, it goes from cat files and trickles down.  If you have unlinked messages, they will most likely be missed.

Okay... that's good. I was hoping it would either leave them and not import, or somehow re-index them. I just didn't want to have extra dead-weight in the db.

That's good... because when I did a repair board on my board at the point where half of the boards were gone, the repair wiped out the other half of the boards, and I had to re-upload my 220mb backup file. The old repair was useless.

This new one is nice.

First it lists all the problems, and what's going to happen to them, then you can chose whether to continue or not.

It finds orphanned messages and topics, and puts them into a news board and category, then makes that new category admin-only so the admin can decide what to do with the salvaged stuff :)
