If your browser/computer is set to use Japanese font it should type and display them properly.

I have a greek applet which requires unicode/multibyte chars.

which param file are you trying to use and what js file?

Also if your interested in translating the applet into Japanese and can I have developer take a look to see if thee are any problems on why the applet is not accepting the characters.

I'm upgrading one of my forums to 1.5 now and will start looking at the code changes. There really should not be much of a difference because the chat mod is pretty self sufficient.

I'm not Omario... I'm just Omar :P

that would be cool.. since my bigger community is spanish-japanese :P

I am on the road until the 2nd I will post the file that you can translate and we can get a japanese version of the chat up for your communities. I used to have chinese and arabic both charater sets are simular to the japanese so I dont forsee any problems supporting japanese.

Quote from: diva_uno on December 17, 2002, 04:12:28 PMOne problem I am having brodle is that I can't log in with my nickname which is "C.C." Is this possibly because of the "." - ? Or could it possibly be because someone in the IRC community has the same name? I have created another account just for chatting, but if there is a way around me using my main admin nickname I would rather use it.

IRC protocal does not allow periods in usernames. That would be why it doesnt allow you. These are the acceptable characters
`^-_[]{}

I will see what I can do to make it so that any username can be used but it will take time.

No hurry brodle...
Using the other account is no big deal. Just let me know when you have figured it out.
Thanks.

It seems easy to me. In chat.php find

$memsettings = mysql_fetch_array($request);
$chatname = str_replace(" ","_",$memsettings['realName']);
and add after

$chatname = str_replace(".","_",$memsettings['realName']);
That will replace all . s in people names with an underscore.

The only remaining issue I have is people names begining with a numerical digit which is also not allowed.

Now added a couple of lines to prefix names starting with a digit with an "_" so that "1shot1kill" becomes "_1shot1kill"

Add the following:

$initialchar = substr($chatname,0,1);
if ( $initialchar >= "0"  &&  $initialchar <= "9" ) {
   $chatname = "_" . $chatname;
   }

after the above mod. Now my users will auto login whether they have an initial digit or a . in their name.

Tested it in my forum and seems to work great.

Hope this helps others - brodle you might want to add this to the chat.php in the download file.

One last thing before I forget.

This is a great mod - but the title bar of your browser will say the url to the page rather than the text "Chat Mod" because yytitle is not declared global.

At the top of chat.php (along with the other global variables) you need to add
global yytitle;
Now the contents of yytitle will be displayed in the browser title bar when you view the chat page.

Is this going to be ported to 1.5?  I was going to take a look at it, but I can't even figure out how to get it at this point :(.
