Quote from: Jeff Lewis on December 30, 2001, 05:15:08 PMHmm, good question ;)  Will you also have it live somewhere?  Could help judge as well...
Yes I will, but this my still take some time
and the forum will be completley translated to german (I could make some english buttons for a package).

Now what about the modified files in Sources directory?
Only live judging or packages with our without these files.

Are multiple entries (within reason) allowed?

Yes you can have multiple entries, and I say yes we can view it online as well.  As for buttons being in another language, that is fine, we're not judging the language ;)

umm.. this is no longer a template competition but mod competition... i think you should change the title... in fact this is more of a deisgn competition because we can virtually modify anything we like and have some preset data fields already there... i think you should place some limits on what and what can't be done... cause if this is a template competiton i would like it to be that.

Yeah, let's keep it in hand... What Jeff said in the first post was right, I think: a template HTML file and image set. I think it's better to keep templates definitely separate from mods; makes things a lot easier and more organized, especially if they decide to incorporate the winning template into a future release of YaBB SE or in a package or something.

Of course, after this, a mod competition would be grrrrrrreat! ;D

If you limit the competition to template.html only, the results will be boring. Just the same YaBB boards with different colors and buttons only. Then it'd be more fun to spend a nice afternoon over at the template vault.

If this competition is about making the best looking board, then you won't come around modding some files.
Otherwise you are too restricted.
The whole concept of the template I'm working on is impossible to realize without some modding.

Yeah, I agree that to really make an awesome and original board of your own design, you'd have to modify the program code, and if that's what they want to do, that's fine by me.

However, the purpose and concept of a "template" is to have some nice little plug-and-play thing (synonymous to a skin), not something requiring multiple changes to the code (this would be a "modification"). You *can* do a lot with just the template and the images, just use your imagination and come up with some neat combinations. Basically the only thing you can't touch is the <yabb main>.

It's just like a skin for any program out there; it will change the face, but not the hardwired model. The skinning community doesn't go out, decompile WinAmp, re-write it so it fits what they want, and then submit the new program as a "skin."

So blame Corey that he never put skining into YaBB1Gold and the fact that skinning is big task to undertake. It would take total re-write to implement it properly, which is YaBB2  ;D

Also the Template.html file is very simple and easy to use for the intermediate user. Change some colors and your board looks a touch different.

The point is that the BBS shouldn't have to look amasing! to get it off the shelf, just good, simple and easy to use. (and of course reliable) which is YaBB  ;D
