Hey

Is there a database-difference between 1.5.1RC1 and 1.5.1 ?

I'm currently useing 1.5.1RC1, and wants to upgrade to 1.5.4 (Supermod). Do I really MUST upgrade to 1.5.1 first ?!

and what update\upgrade-files should I run ?

thanks

There are many builds of RC1, so it really depends on what build you have.

As long as you backup everything, you can always try to upgrade without running upgrade. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work ;D

I know I am NOT the brightest bulb here! What do I do?

I have YaBB 1.5.1 and I did the past update to 1.5.2. I never heard about the 1.5.3.

In my "version check" only a few files are 1.5.2 cause all were not nessicary but I replaced all that were supplied for the update. What should I do? Do I just download the 1-5-4_upgrade.zip and replace the files by ftp? Do I run upgrade.php or anything? Exacly what is the simplest way to do this?

Take a look at the upgrade path tree both in the first post of this thread and on the downloads page.

Yes I understand that! But at the very bottom it says

1.5.2 ->  -> 1.5.4 (upgrade; don't execute upgrade.php).

Do I just install all files and follow all directions (replacing all my files with the newer ones) and just do NOT run the upgrade.php? If so I just replace my /YaBB files huh? That makes sense to me but I do NOT want to screw this up.

Yep, just upload all the files in the upgrade package except for upgrade.php.

Since ive upgraded to the latest version..

Twice for no apparent reason a thread gets this error.

(Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in c:\my site\yabbse\Sources\Subs.php on line 949)

We cant delete the thread or anything..

This never happened before the upgrade...

This is not a connection issue as it does it local as well.

I also noticed that when this thread is accessed it not only takes forever to load the page but the cpu on the server peaks at %100 while doing so..

http://insertcoin.2y.net/yabbse/index.php?board=19;action=display;threadid=69

I opened the subs.php file and went to the line it specified and removed the line ($message = preg_replace($smileyfromcache, $smileytocache, $message);) which seems to have fixed the problem.

It seems the person tried to make abunch of smilies in his post, now you just see his :D instead of the smilies but it loads at least..

Very strange..  ;/

Oh, BTW - I just upgraded successfully to 1.5.4, and let me tell you it's about 300% faster. my 1.4.1 board would hang a great deal but no more.

Great work guys. I do have one issue - notification emails don't have any 'from' line showing in my mail client. The same thing happens with notifications from this board.

Any ideas?

Tywick, best I could offer is you download both and use a program like windiff.

Once again Thank You for the advice. I ended up finding and using WinMerge instead which works wonders IMHO.

there were a few lines of code (besides comments) that were differrent between 1.5.1RC1 and 1.5.1.

I still need to do a little more tweaking with the floating categories but it works great for now.

All tweaked nice and purty now. Also see Floating Categories for 1.5.x for more info.

I'm sorry, can someone explain the difference between "update" and "upgrade"?  I'm at 1.5.2, at least I think I am.  It says 1.5.1, but if I do the version check, some of the files say 1.5.2.

Anyway, it says that I can either upgrade directly without running upgrade.php, or else update twice 1.5.2 to 1.5.3 to 1.5.4.  I'm not really sure what that means.

I've changed my buttons, and made some mods to news.php, so I'd rather not overwrite all those files if I don't have to.  Did all the stuff in the 1.5.4 package really change?

Thanks.

In your case, it's just two different ways of picking up the same files. The updates are smaller packages but the upgrade contains everything you need in a single download. You don't need to execute upgrade.php because there are no changes to the DB structure between 1.5.2 and 1.5.4.

Nobody who's changed their buttons overwrites them with new versions except by mistake! As for news.php, it looks like you're in luck because that's not one of the affected files for your particular upgrade... :)

PS IMHO you'd be better off with the updates because they're *much* smaller downloads and only contain the files you need!

Thanks.  Yeah, I looked at the updates and there were only a few files in there.  I just copied them over the old ones and that's it.  The upgrade version looks like it has every single file, regardless of whether it changed.

I'm not sure why they do that...

I think its so you can either do a full install or just replace the files you need. If you check the readme it has full instructions as to which you have to replace.

It appears my problem was caused by members posting too many smilies inside a thread.

It also stretched the boarders of the page beyond the screen to where you had to scroll to the right quite abit..

Is there a way to limit or lock the width of the forum?

Since both the new files in the 1.5.3 update are also replaced in 1.5.4, the 1.5.4 update should (with hindsight) be all you need to upgrade from 1.5.2.
