In fact, the template doesn't even access the database.... although it does use a large amount of PHP.

Just create a site layout and modify your forum's template to fit in it.  Take a look at mine. http://www.boardnation.com/community/index.php

could someone please give me some more detailed instructions on how to do this? my PHP knowledge along with SSI workings is rather limited, however I do know a lot of HTML.
So, if someone could come with step by step instructions then I'd appreciate it very much.
btw..running 1.5.3

Look at the template submissions and download aliencows submission on page 20 and you will have something to work with.

i would like to show off my site:

ive been using YaBB since Oct 2000 or so, switching to the PHP version when it was at 1.3.x or something.

my site uses NewsPro for news submission, with a bunch of modifications to its Perl files to output PHP friendly stuff for my site. PHP is used to include my NewsPro output and YaBBSE forum stuff all together with the default template used for my site. for anyone who things SSI is used for a lot of stuff, its certainly not! SSI is something you get forced to do if you dont have access to PHP, and if you're running a PHP based board like YaBBSE, you can probably use PHP commands like include() instead of any SSI.

http://xenomorph.net/

the site is kinda slow (i'm hosting it on my home system for now). but you can see how well everything integrates.

i may even write my own portal script some day.
