Title: Fix to problems with Free hosting on lycos.co.uk
Post by: CandyMann_69 on December 04, 2002, 09:04:18 PM
If you host your yabb se forum on free lycos.co.uk you probably having some problems with it.  I have come up with a mod that seems to fix a few of those problems.

Some of the problems it fixes / helps:

Can't link to SQL database (intermittent errors)
Redirection errors (i.e. posting and not going back to the forum)

If you don't have boardmod, you will need to download it.

http://boardmod.yabbforum.com/downloads.php

Mods located at:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/kazaaliteforum/mods/

(For Yabbse 1.4.1 & 1.51)

{attached mod - Compuart}

This should be posted in Completed Mods, BTW.

Also you connect to the database like this.
Code: [Select]
$tempxyz = 0;
$dbcon = false;
while (tempxyz < 10 and !$dbcon) {
$dbcon = mysql_connect($db_server, $db_user, $db_passwd);
$tempxyz++;
}
mysql_select_db($db_name);

That will connect 11 times to the database creating unneccessary load on the server.

Allright, this definitely fixed my redirection problem. So if this is fixable, can this be fixable too: Make the redirection after posting to the thread you posted/replied (or at least to a page (which I might be able to make myself) in which I can chose between going to the thread or, for example, to the boardindex).
The fix is great tho  ;) (I only needed it for the redirectionproblem), it's definitely better than going to a lycos page :P, although I would like to be redirected to my thread... Is their a way ;D?

Great work though!

Sweet!  Thanks for the fixes Candy_Man!  The email error has been bugging the hell out of me.

*heads off to install BoardMod and fix his (@$*^%$^_#@(* Lycos board!*  Man, I cant wait to get a real host!

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Ok, I did the board mod thing, but I still got a redirection error.  Just to make sure, all I do is upload the modified index.php and /sources/subs.php?
I'm I leaving anything out?

Is there a way to use this online (without downloading your board)? I

ask this because I cannot install PHP on the computer I use at school because the school does not give each user enough space.

Post by: anduril66 on December 18, 2002, 01:14:21 PM
Oh. This is what the Boardmod Readme says:

First of all, you need an offline version of your board on your disc
drive. That means you have to copy it into an folder somewhere on your
disc. After program start, you have to select your index.php, therefore
click on <browse>. This is necessary for getting the path to your board
on your harddisc. (Please note that if you want to select another offline
board in another folder after having installed some mods, you should clear
the log file (button) to delete all install/uninstall information from the
old board) Now, you can choose the mod which should be applied. Do this
by clicking the list on the right. Now, you will see more detailed
information about this mod. There are 2 radio buttons on the left.

So you can edit your board (on your computer) if you don't have PHP installed?

The background over the entire message board, not sure if there is more than one type of background, but it kinda looks that way

And for some reason, I can't start a new thread anywhere, I dunno why  :'(

"Error

What is this problem, and how can I fix it?

I can't get boardmod to load the lycos_1_4_1 mod file. When I run boardmod I get an 'Ivalid Filename' error. I've tried copying the code and saving the file with the boardmod editor but I get the same invalid filename error.

I tried to modify the php files by using the 'find and replace' edit mode in dreamweaver, but dreamweaver couldn't find any matches for the 'searched for' code.

I have YaBBSE version 1.5.1RC1B44 and I have the same redirection problem with the lycos free site.

Help would be much appreciated.

Title: Re:Fix to problems with Free hosting on lycos.co.uk
Post by: smiler on March 04, 2003, 06:14:05 AM
oldiesman,

don't think you can switch it off.....safe mode is set by the server operator (lycos in this case). Have you used a safe mode version of yabbse.......I also had problems with the 1.5.0 version but I've completely changed it to the latest beta release......I think the download page advises not to use 1.5.0.....use either 1.4.1 or 1.5.1.

I have sorted my problem. Still can't get boardmod to work. But the latest code in 1.5.1 has slight changes to the code outlined in mod 1.4.1. This is why dreamweaver couldn't find and replace the code. I just reduced the search criteria to pinpoint the start of the code to be replaced. There is only one instance to change in both index.php and subs.php. You also need to modify the replacement code in line with the latest version.

My forum is now working as it should.......for the moment, I haven't tried out all of it's functionality yet.

Well done and thanks to Candy_man for the original fix.

smiler  :)

Ok. I figured out how to do it manually. For some reason, it was using Notepad to search the document and not Wordpad, so I did a manual install and went in and made the changes with wordpad. I'm gonna upload the modified files and see if they work.

I haven't actually tried anything with attachments yet as I'm still setting up my board and installing mods and stuff. I'll try posting an attachment soon and let you know what happens. The only other thing is in the admin section it says that I am unable to connect to YaBB's xml file and when I click on the link to view the news or whatever, I get a javascript error.
Title: Re:Fix to problems with Free hosting on lycos.co.uk
Post by: smiler on March 09, 2003, 07:43:49 AM
Well I've searched the forum for any and all problems associated with using lycos as a free host for a yabbse forum. The general comment is 'don't use lycos because there are too many problems/restrictions with the php4u environment imposed by lycos'.

Well....I'm not giving up that easily...!

I have my yabbse board up and running and there are still one or two problems. My main concern at the moment is getting attachments to work.

I get the following error message.

2: chmod() has been disabled for security reasons
(/data/members/free/tripod/uk/s/p/r/******/htdocs/forum/Sources/Post.php ln 888)

The ****** is my domain name.

The file actually uploads and is stored in the attachments directory. Since it is possible to attach http based images to a post then it must be possible to attach any images stored in the attachments directory. I'm not sure what the implications might be for attaching other file types, e.g. excel file.

Has anyone resolved the lycos attachment problem

regards, smiler

Post by: smiler on March 09, 2003, 09:16:18 AM
Well......I have managed to attach image files to my posts  :)......I haven't experimented with other file types as of yet.

I commented out the chmod line in post.php line 888.

In My 'Installed Mods Settings and Options'

Attachments Upload Path set to - attachments
Attachments URL set to - http://members.lycos.co.uk/*****/yabbse/attachments

******is your lycos domain name or root directory name.

regards, smiler

Edit:........other attachments work as well......I've cracked it............. :)

I gave up on Lycos.co.uk after their MySQL server quit working properly. I now have my own domain name (oldiesmann.us - $17.50 for 2 years at cheap-domainregistration.com and $4.75/month hosting at emarkhosting.com). I got the board installed, but now I'm getting errors about "headers already sent". I don't know why though.

Post by: smiler on March 11, 2003, 01:36:26 PM
Well I thought I had sorted my attachments problem but I have come up against another problem.

I have the attachments enabled in 'Installed Mods Settings and Options', however, members are still not able to make attachments as the facility does not appear in their browser. When I examine 'Restrict attachments to member groups' setting, I find the only member group included is 'Administrator'. Clicking on the blue icon next to this setting opens a small window containing a list of membergroups to be selected to be included in the enable attachments feature. My list only contains 'Administrator' and 'Global moderator', so these are the only two groups I am able to include for using the attachments feature.

I have tried typing in the other member group names in the setting box but this has made no difference and the feature is still unavailable to 'Newbie' members (my only group at the moment).

I've looked at 'Edit member groups' but I don't believe this is the answer to my problem.

Why do I only have 2 groups included in the above discussed feature.......is this a bug with 1.5.1RC1B44?

regards, smiler

Thanks for that [Unknown],

I mi-read the setting title as the opposite of it's intention......

'Restrict attachments to member groups'

I read this as 'restrict the attachment function to allow the following member groups only to use it'.

Apologies for wasting your time on such a trivial matter. The written word can easily be mis-interpreted.

Perhaps 'Dis-allow the following member groups from attaching files' would have clarified it better for a thicko like me.

I'm still in the process of developing my free lycos website. I've been trying to use the SSI.php file to get my homepage to display the forum 'welcome - login or register'. Using the SSI file outside of the forum folder has a number of problems. (yabbse 1.5.1B44)

My homepage is of course in the root directory and is the default page for the website - this is why the yabbse forum is in a sub-directory, to prevent conflict with yabbse/index.php becoming the default page.

Following the instructions supplied with ssi_examples.php I get the following error:

Fatal error:call to undefined function clicklog() in SSI.php on line 59

Clicklog() is the first function call in SSI.php so if you get this error it indicates a problem with SSI locating the appropriate code for the function definition. The problem is associated with all of the 'include_once' code instructions in SSI.php at:

line 49 include_once($full_yabbse_path .'/Settings.php')

line 54 include_once($sourcedir . '/Errors.php')

line 55 include_once($sourcedir . '/Subs.php')

line 56 include_once($sourcedir . '/Load.php')

line 87 include_once($language)

line 92 include_once($language)

The only way I could get SSI to work with my homepage sitting above the yabbse forum directory was as follows:

1.Make a copy of SSI.php and store it in my root directory (same as my homepage).

2. Hard code the actual forum path into the above lines in SSI.php, as opposed to using the predefined variables ,
 e.g.
line 49 include_once('./yabbse/Settings.php')

line 54 include_once('./yabbse/Sources/Errors.php')

line 87 include_once('yabbse/english.lng')

The first line of the homepage remains as per the example in ssi_example.php.

Of course, SSI works OK without any changes if my homepage sits in the same directory as yabbse. But as I said, this causes a conflict with making my homepage the default.

I hope this info helps anybody else who has been struggling with this.

regards, smiler  :)

Hi, Jesus200,

Macht also insgesamt keinen so guten Eindruck.

Wie hast Du denn installiert, damit es läuft?
Kennst Du alternative FreeSpace-Hoster mit PHP/MySQL?

Danke.

got board since fri on lycos.de, ftp and sql access don't work now. Any other PHP/MySQL hosters?

ftp mit lycos hat bis jetzt keine probleme gemacht.

Zu mysql kann ich dir sagen, dass das problem bei meinem board seit gestern abend auch besteht, aber das liegt definitiv an mysql - also weder an lycos noch an der board-software.

jv,

post 35 by n00B on this thread provides all the information you need to solve the redirection problem.

You simply need to alter the code in 2 seperate php files....

index.php

and

subs.php

post 35 tells you what code to search for and what code to replace it with. The original mod was for an earlier version of Yabbse and no longer works. post 35 solves the problem for the latest release.

regards, smiler

edit....i've just re-read post 35 and the code is identical to the original mod, however, there have been slight changes to the later version of Yabbse and the code needs a small modification....

e.g.the searched for code in index.php is

$dbcon = mysql_connect($db_server, $db_user, $db_passwd) or die(mysql_error());

so........' die(mysql_error()' ......  has been added......!

whoops........sorry!!!!

jv,

you can do either......tripod has an editing facility that allows you to modify the code.......I. personally used dreamweaver to edit on my PC and then I uploaded the amended code.....I think the tripod facility is limited (no search/replace).....

the

'or die(mysql_error()'

should be part of the replacement code.....

I cant find Sub.php!

Sub.php in sources? wait did i have to edit index in sources too i edited it in the main Yabbse folder

INDEX IS GONE!!!!! EVERYTHING IN IT IS GONE SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!

jv,

the file is Subs.php and not Sub.php

it is located in the Sources sub-directory.

you only need to alter index.php in the forum root directory.......any other index.php file in sub-directories contain different code and should not be altered.

you may be looking at index.php in the sources sub-directory...that file contains very little code...

don't panic....you can always download the Yabbse files again from this site if you have erased/damaged the code....just take your time with this....there's no rush and you will get there in the end..... :)

I keep getting these Error Latey

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /tripod/uk/*****/yabbse/index.php on this server.

Well it's pretty ennoying.. but I have 2 forums on Lycos.
1 using 1.4.1 and the other using 1.5.2 (supermod) and I'm getting these errors on the 1.5.2 and I don't get this on the 1.4.1.

Keep the forum basicly working before you install the mod.  (Everything should work except when posting, it will redirect you to a diffrent page)

Sounds like you have a change mod problem.  Check out the install instructions again, or the FAQ area.

is there any one that can crappity smack tha problems with the yapppak center to work with tripod

it gives the
2: ini_get() has been disabled for security reasons
when you load the yapppak center

i think its just trying to read the servers file to load the off site links

but what i would like to see as the mod for this is

to be able to just upload the files to the ftp server and run the yapp paks off there
not sure if you can even broswe the pak servers but not all are on a server any ways but if you can upload them to the account and be able to still install

that would own

many thanks

if i knew how to do it i would

also ima running pfabb or what ever it is

thanks again

There's no way that YaBB pack center will ever work with Tripod. The security settings will prevent it from working.

lol i musta been drunk that dont even make sense to me  :)

well it can still work right i mean its just trying to load off site info and spittin a error

but the installer should work right

i mean it only reads the files in the package folder and changes files

i think that it can do that seeing that the attactments and stuff work so i know that the script can write files

just needa make it only list the files in the package folder and stop trying to load off site info

Modifying files and letting them be chmod'ed is something different than just uploading attachements.

Modifying source files offline using boardmod is way easier if you're using lycos  8)

Thank you very much for this mod. But there is something I'd like to fix. When I make a post/reply or basically save anything on my forum like make a new category or save the template. Well it brings me to a site that says it is redirecting back to the forum but it doesn't redirect and everytime I have to click the link so it redirects. I'm guessing I have to edit this code:

Code: [Select]
function redirectexit (){   global $yySetLocation;   print '<html><head><script language="JavaScript"><!-- Beginlocation.href="' . $yySetLocation . '"//  End --></script></head><title>Redirector</title><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"></head><body><center>  <br>  <br>  <br>  Redirecting to ' . $yySetLocation . '<br>  Please click <a href="' . $yySetLocation . '">here</a> if not redirected.<br></center></body></html>';   obExit();}
Or this code:

Code: [Select]
function redirectinternal()
{
   global $currentboard, $sourcedir, $action, $threadid;

   if ($currentboard != '' && $action != 'logout')
   {
      if (isset($threadid) && $threadid > 0)
      {
         include_once("$sourcedir/Display.php");
         Display();
      }
      else
      {
         include_once("$sourcedir/MessageIndex.php");
         MessageIndex();
      }
   }
   else
   {
      include_once("$sourcedir/BoardIndex.php");
      BoardIndex();
   }
   obExit();
}

How can I set it to redirect without having to click the link?

I'm not sure, but somehow I got it to do that on my Lycos board... I think I commented out a redirectexit() someplace. Also, attachments don't work on Lycos UK... Everytime I've tried to attach something it says "chmod() has been disabled due to security reasons".

To get free hosting on Lycos UK, simply go to www.lycos.co.uk and click on "Register" on the upper right-hand side of the screen. This is right below the "shopping" tab.

I can't run the installation in my lycos account...
the info of the server is

and I have set the CHMOD correctly, but when I finish completing step 1 and I try to go on, some problems with lines 335, 346 and 348 appear and I can't continue the installation process...
what can I do?
