Title: [Done 1.3-1.4.1] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: goosemoose on October 30, 2002, 06:33:34 PM
Integrated Chat v.3 Download Here (http://www.goosemoose.com/integratedchat.3.zip)

This is an irc mod that uses a private irc server run by everywherechat.com. The owner of the server Brodle and I have been working together and he has offered to host all the irc servers for YaBB. It is fast, free, and best of all uses none of your bandwith!

Features:

1. Automatically logs users on with their forum name (not their login name) plus an _forumname. This name is up to you to choose. Since everyone will be using the same server this will prevent any conflicts. If the user had a space in their forum name it will be replaced with an underscore.

2. Displays the users who are online on the forum underneath number of messages (though it can be moved).

3. Displays the number of users currently in the chat room.

4. The chat room can be access via any irc program as well and those users will still show up on the whose chatting on the forums page!

5. You can list the number of users and who is using your chat on any page on your website.

Note: PLEASE BACK UP FIRST!! This is a first beta mod!
Even though there are very few steps please do this. Please read the mod file carefully. Please post your results here.

Currently users can double click on their name once they log in to register with nickserv.

***** Make sure to double click in the channel to set yourself and your other forum mods up as room moderators.

Future Updates:

1. It is very possible to set this up to automatically register users accounts with the servers nickserv automatically.

2. Writing an addon that will take the logged in usernames, dump them to a file and remove the forum name add-on so that it will no appear at the top of your forum.

3. Brodle is working on upgrading the server so that your room can be invisible and still list the users in the room on your forum. Currently if you set it to invisible then your users will not be listed on your forum.

If you are interested in helping out with these updates let me know.

If you have any questions about the chat program itself you can contact Brodle via email at dnicol@akiva.com or by going to the support room on the server, by typing /join #support

Oh, if you guys would rather have the list of users currently in chat listed down where users online are let me know and I will change the code to do that.

If anyone has any questions about the chat interface itself or the service please just ask. A little background for the service. I have been running a free chat community for 6 years now, offering free chat rooms for websites and for people to come in chat in. I work for  Akiva who develops the chat software and use the server to release new features and get  feedback on them. Help us work out new features also capture any bugs.  Use of the service is free and there are no ads so it is idle. GooseMoose found me awhile back and I have been working with him to integrate chat into his board.

Am just trying your mod. I like it.

The only problem I have is I would prefer to have Transcript Recording turned off by default??

A minor thing is that when it shows which users are online there seems to be an extra , shown.. not really important at all though  ;D

Hi Pioneer,
 Glad you like it. What is your website?

  I know about the extra ",". Brodle thinks it is coming from an invisible user that handles registration for the room. It should be an easy fix though and won't require anything on your end. I'll check into the transcript recording. If you msg Brodle or email him at the address above he can probably turn it off for your room. I actually have a bot that sits in my room to take care of kicking idiots and keep a log for myself to handle members who become a problem.

I fixed the default room transcripts on problem. It is now a room owner setting in the chat room options.

That recording of chat is fine.. but my members are rather paranoid at the best of times!

I am trialing to chats at the moment, yours.. and one that is based on Jpilot.

I think its missing a </a> should be like the following..

Code: [Select]
      $yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"$imagesdir/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

Some people like to have the ability to retrieve the transcripts and display them on their site. :)

Jpilot has nothing on my chat applet !! :) Plus I am willing to help anyone who would like to customize the look and feel of the applet. Basically a skin overlays on top of the applet to make up the graphical look. So it can match your website. I can also rmeove any of the buttons so if you say didnt want the rooms tab just let me know the name of the room you created and I can make it happen. derek@akiva.com 8)

Just trying your chatroom app now. I had to use a Java addon for Jpilot (actions/smilies etc).

My users love your chatroom!!

Highly recommended! Its nice and quick.. no lag what so ever!

How come something this good is free?  ;D

Because Brodle is cool :) And his company doesn't mind us using it since it becomes a beta playground for them. I forgot to add that they have created the chat program in different languages. Change the chat.php to use the codes below if you want.

Also, someone at teaminfo.be (i think it's christ77) needs to change the roomname to what you want it to be. Your users are ending up in roomname.

German Translated Applet
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/german.js?room=NAMEOFROOMHERE&width=500&height=520"></script>

Dutch Translated Applet
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/dutch.js?room=NAMEOFROOMHERE&width=500&height=520"></script>

Nepalish Translated Applet
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/nepal.js?room=NAMEOFROOMHERE&width=500&height=520"></script>

Greek Translated Applet
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/greek.js?room=NAMEOFROOMHERE&width=500&height=520"></script>

Spanish Translated Applet

I work for Akiva who develops the chat technology I use at www.everywherechat.com. I have been running a free chat community for 9 years now. I actually started before I worked for Akiva.

By running this server I get to run my hobby for free and  my company gets to

1. Test new code for bugs and fix them in a live setup
2. Get feed back on new features
3. Keep me happy so I dont go and work for someone

So I have a dedicated server sitting on unlimited amount of bandwith with dual processor and 2 gigs of ram.

Even though I have users in my room.. it say zero. Also doesnt list any users.

I havent changed anything.

Those sounds are cool!  ;D

Post by: PioneeR on October 31, 2002, 03:27:01 PM
Ah.. I changed my room to secret (trying to stop random people popping in for a chat)

Is there another way for me to do that? Password protect the room... but I wouldnt want my members to have to keep typing the password in.
Title: Re:[BETA] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: brodle on October 31, 2002, 03:36:56 PM
I am working on new scripts so that if you make your room hidden the tools to report who is logged in the chat rooms and how many users works.

For the time being what we can do is you can set a room password for your room. Tell me the name of your room and the password you set and I can code it into a param file I have here. it is not 100% affective cause ppl can view that param file but no one does cause no one ever needs to.  This way anyone logging in through your site will gain access to the room without putting in a password and anyone who tries to join from a nother room will need to know that password. So just email me the room name and password and I will have it up. derek@akiva.com

Very nice mod! :P
I've just installed it on my board and so far it's working great!

Two minor problems:
I tried to use the dutch translated applet, but that applet comes up very small (about 50% instead of 100% width).
Any idea's?

There is always a ",," after the latest name in the "who's in the chat room" list.

Great job! ;D
Title: Re:[BETA] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: brodle on October 31, 2002, 05:08:25 PM
you can use dutch_full.js instead of dutch.js

That applet is set to use 100% like goosemooses site.
Title: Re:[BETA] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: brodle on October 31, 2002, 05:16:45 PM
If you want to set a password on your room you can pass in a &key=thepasswordhere on the e.js code in the mod. This should pass in the password so your users dont need enter a password and anyone else who tries to access the room will be prompted for that password and can not answer.

currently this only works on the defaul mod setup if anyone wants to use a translated applet and do this let me know.

Ive just got one question for Brodle

Ive a few users who love their IRC clients and hate Java, now I know from the docs that this chat is IRC compliant, and should be able to be connected to with an IRC client, but, I for the life of me cant figure out how ??

maybe this is real obvious and I missed it, if so, pardon my ignorance  :)

Hi Goosemoose!

The script works great.  But I notice the Java is a bit slow to load.  I use a 256K sDSL connection.

But my main question is where to put this:

Code: [Select]
$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"$imagesdir/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

The Subs.php I have has more settings like this in it:

Quote
yymenu = $yymenu."<a href=\"$menu_item[url]\"><img src=\"$menu_item[img]\" border=\"0\" alt=\"$menu_item[alt]\"></a>";

It doesn't say anything about cgi or profile.  Could you help me out please.  I'm installing it manually.  The first try, I got 3 chat buttons on the menu.  That's when I checked out how it works.  :-)

THANK YOU!

Ajk,
The javascript is large but you will only have to load it once if you have internet explorer setup to cache javascript files. From then on it loads immediately. Also, on my 56k it takes less than one minute.
That line goes inside of the subs.php around the profile line so it will only show up to logged in users. If you play around with it you can find it. What version of Yabb are you using? The line I put in the find was from 1.4.0 and 1.4.1.

Glad you like it!

How do they quit out of chat? You could add members manually to the chatroom and make it a member only room. I am working on an addon that would create a password for each user and store it in the datbase and then log users in and add them automatically, but it will be awhile before I get that out.

They just click on the chat X in the top right of the jave app. This then returns them to a Login screen. Where they can only enter a username. When they click connect it brings them back to the room.

Its not a problem at all. Just thought i would mention it

Coolmom: Can you explain a little bit more of what you want? Your users can join other rooms by typing /join #roomname. You could also create different links for different rooms and them add them next to each board or something.

Andre: Yes, another mod could interfere with the code. Email your subs.php to me and I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.

PioneeR: Hehe, I have the same problem!

Christ77: Email brodle and he will send you the text file you can convert to text for him to create a french version.

I think that's everything :)

Some FAQ's for you and your users.

My java applet will support any 3.x or higher browser however it is always recommended to run the latest and greatest.

Some time java is screwed up on peoples machine, if that is the case they should always run the latest Microaoft Java VM from http://www.microsoft.com/java or Sun Java VM from http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

There is also built in firewall detection for those users who may be trying to conenct form behind a firewall. As long as the proxu or firewall is base din the header of the browser these users will not have any problems connecting. ( 90%) of all firewalls and Proxies send info in the header.

Mac user should not use Netcape. Netscape uses some other java vm on the Mac system. They should use  Microsoft and OS X is the best :)

T H A N K - Y O U!

* Is there a way to block out the other channels in this   service so it only shows your room?

* Is there a way to get the whose online in chat display
to show smaller text?

* Is there a way to completely remove that whole _Abbreviation tag after the name?

I mean not rename it but remove that option?

* Is there a way when you click on the chat button
that the new window pops up over self, and not as
a smaller size window?

Email the name fo your room and I can rmeove the rooms tab  so it doesnt show a list of the othe rooms on the system.

As far as the  font size where it displays the name should be able to just include  a font tag around the script that pulls the ifnormation.

The _roomname appendage to the username is something goosemoose put it, Ill let him answer that. I will let him answer the last question also.

CrimSon_ReD: You can not remove the _abbreviation. If you do this you will have major problems. Since you are sharing an irc server with all the other YaBB websites and other everywherechat.com irc users you will end up with nickname collisions. The additional _abbreviation is the only thing that prevents this (as long as two sites don't use the same abbreviation).
 As far as the smaller pop up windows goes, you would have to add a javascript that forces the new windows open to full screen. Search around the internet for html open full screen window and see what you come up with.

I finally got it installed on YabbSE 1.4.1 after makeing a few changes to make it into a YabbPak and it seems to work ok but I am not pleased with the browser support.  It works flawlessly on IE6, looks like *poo* on Netscape6 and will not load at all on Opera6 or Netscape4.7.  The corporate firewall may be messing it.  But it looks like it could be a nice feature for those that can load it.

Hi Guys,
 I am sure most of you realize this, but for those of you who havent:

You can add the list of people logged into chat, and the number of people currently in chat to any page of your site, such as your main page :) Just insert the follow code anywhere!

Also, can someone please email me an unmodded index.php and subs.php? Thanks

There are currently <script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/java/test.js?room=roomname"></script> people talking in the chat room.<BR>

<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/java/members_comma.js?room=roomname"></script>

I got the chat window to work in Opera6 when outside the corporate firewall... that must have been the issue.  Great mod!

sound slike you have a firewal that just crack down on your connecting to the chat server over http tunnel. The chat is designed to try ports 7000 and 6667 to get  anormal conenction, if those are block it then goes to port 8000 and tunnels through the webserver.

Please email url and login and I will check but I think this is firewall related

I am interested in peoples feedback on how we can make this mod better. Soemthing will be hard because we are dealing with many different messages boards with their own DB and one centralize DB here on my end.

Is there anything people think would make this better? Really interested from people who ahve checked it out and decided not to implement it.

No problem :), I am sure goosemoose will contact you today. I let him know when I talk to him.

Some additional information for translating the applet. you can add this paramter to the chat script code to translate the interface.

&paramfilename=german.prm
&paramfilename=dutch.prm
&paramfilename=spanish.prm
&paramfilename=nepal.prm
&paramfilename=greek.prm

so you would take it on to the full.js?room=nameofroom&paramfilename=german.prm

You can also contorl the fontsize now by adding &fontsize=13

I have also set the applet to auto load an html client if the java on someone's machine is broken so they can still get into chat.

There's one small minor bug..
That when you click on the chat link.
Ut takes you to the login screen unlike
before when it would just log the forum
register member in and request a password.

If there a way pass this, that would be quite helpful.

The fix will be posted soon.

Title: Re:[Done 1.3-1.4.1] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: brodle on November 08, 2002, 04:14:16 PM
I actually I have built in proxy detection built into the chat which should tunnel you through the web port if you have the normal chat ports blocked ( usually take a few seconds because the applet tries 7000 and 6667). However, one of the limitations of this detection is you must be passing your proxy address in the browser header information.  This could be why it's not tunnleing for you. If you could turn your java console on then try to join the chat and send me the result of the console I can see what we can do.

One alternative is to prompt you for your proxy information but most people dont know this. I can hard code your proxy information for your chat room you setup, I would just need the nickname you will use when you log into the chat.

First enable the java Console in Internet Explorer
Tools - Internet Options - Advance Tab - scroll Down and Enable Java Console

Restart all your browser windows.

Log into http://www.goosemoose.com/rfc

Let everything load and wait for a few. Then you can do a View - Java Console

Coolmom: What did you add to the template? That is where the code will go to show the number of users. There shouldn't be a problem with that. Crimson is having a problem getting the users to autologin but I am guessing that is because YaPP changes how username is tracked. I'm looking into it right now.

 i embedded script into it's own page, to have chat on a seperate page since my number of categories and boards are so high.
one of the guys in the support room helped me do it.
first i tried it, i made a custom block and put the linking script that's on the everywherechat.com 's addchat page, into the block, and ran it that way. but it made my page too long..
so, i wasn't able to use your mod exactly, but i am runnin the everywhere chat now.

i'd like to have the mod workin for the chat, to put it on the boards, but, i dunno where to find the chat.php file to try it.

the mod i'd REALLY REALLY like to get worked out is the collapsable categories as default for my page, since i have so many.  but, i've read that the current mod for that wont' work with the YaPP stuff.  so... hafta wait n see on that one.

to this:

I think I've got it working on my site OK.  http://duxcw.com/yabbse.  Haven't chatted yet, but it looks real cool.  However, when I am in chat it shows 0 users in the chat room.  I would also, as previously suggested, like chat users online at the bottom of the page.  And I would like to retrict the chat room to registered yabbse users on my site.  The reason for that is we are very strict about vulgar language.  Boardmod had search errors with 1.41 so I did it manually.  I have never used boardmod before so the errors may have been caused by my ignorance.  Larry

Larry

you forgot to edit this  line for the roomname

src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/java/test.js?room=roomname"></script>

Thats why it shows 0 users.

I have discovered that the "errors on page" message only occurs when the chat room is empty.  When it has even one user in it, there are no errors.  I think it is because it is trying to check the member names of a room that doesn't exist.  Don't know if there is a fix for that, but that is what causes it.  I tried the code that was posted in the other thread by nemesis (thanks, by the way) but it was identical to the code I had in there already.

Chris Cromer has reported it is happening at Boardmod SE test site. I haven't touched the code so I also have a feeling it is something happening on your side.  :-\

I think you guys are right. I do get the code on another forum I run when nobody is in there. The RFC site always has people in there, which would explain us never seeing it. Should be an easy fix.

The chat looks nice. Only thing I don't like is that the color is blue which doesn't go with anything in my site. Do they offer this chat in other colors? I was just looking for something more neutral like a white or light gray. I'm a web designer so I guess I'm looking at it from a artistic eye and not from a programmers mind.

I downloaded and installed the chat and I really like it! It's one of the best chat's I've used.  It looks nice and runs quickly and smoothly.

Now unfortunitly I'm one of those people using absolute table widths :( and Netscape won't display the chat. Sigh. Is there any way around this shy of the obvious, getting rid of the absolute table width? Thanks!

Keep up the great work!

Also, can you remove the rooms tab from the following chatroom, yfc. Thanks!

in your chat.php use e.js instead of full.js

so you can do e.js?room=nameofroom&height=500&width=500

I shoudl ahve the fix for that script error problem up tomorrow. i had to compile a new exe of the chat software for the fix. Essentially the server was not eturning any value when no one was in the chat room so i could not test for 0 or null.

Will be up tomorrow. As far as skins for the applet it will be awhile since I have to dig up Adobe. I invite anyone to download the skin images, redo the backgrouns color and send them to be zipped.

Also voice chat should be ready soon. I think everyone will like it. We will probably put it into a new verison of the mod to make it something you can turn on or off or provide your users with as an option. The voice interface requires the sun java plugin, which will automatically download if the user does not have it installed. it will also requir a microphone and a sound card.

I've got a strange question..if I ultimately want to run this on my "public" forum but want to test it on my "non-public" forum first, will that cause any problems?

The forums are two separate yabbse 1.4.1 installs on two different domains.  I don't need two chat rooms...just one, but if i modded both forums, could they theoretically connect to the same channel on your servers?
Title: Re:[Done 1.3-1.4.1] Integrated Chat v.3

Yes you can use the same chat room for both. You can even embed the chat room on a page outside of Yabb if you wanted to by just using the javascript embed code in chat.php.

One simple question. How do I get the chat to open in the same frame as my yabb is in?

One (hopefully) simple problem. I get an error in my index.php. but it is one not named before

Line: 1
Character: 203
Error: Expected ";"
Code: 0
URL: http://www.dodgyscene.nl/yabbse/index.php

Anybody?

It should say....for example: -

Yeah...I'm not happy with the chat loading into a different window either. It would be better if it loads into the same window.

And the next problem I'm having is when I go into chat I have access to other rooms. I noticed on The Rat Fan Club they are locked into just going into that chat. I'm pretty sure this has been posted before...but I think I must be tired and blind because I can't find it.

To stop it opening in a new window is simple

Go to subs.php search for

$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"$imagesdir/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

***REPLACE WITH***

$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\"><img src=\"$imagesdir/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

I recommend using in your chat.php e.js$room=nameofroom$height=500&width=500

You can tack on paramfilename=german.prm at the end of the  query to load the german interface.

As far as the membership stuff, nothign we can really do there but take on a _something so that your members ahve unique username and password.

I am going to be adding the ability to set your chat room to not have rooms tab and also set a password on the actually interface so that your users can  be the only ones who have access to the room. Rather then manually adding every room in :) It will make my life and yours much easier.

Will post when ready.

One thing I have to mention is that when users can't access through a firewall, having the users online command gives a forum load time of literally minutes.

My fix has been to have a template (Skins Mod (http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?board=158;action=display;threadid=15047)) that has no chat command.
Title: Re:[Done 1.3-1.4.1] Integrated Chat v.3

Most firewalls have no problem as long as they are not blocking port 8000 on the chat. My applet automatically defaults to using http port tunneling if it sees a proxy/firewire listed in the header of a browser request.  90% of the time this holds true however, there are cases where firewalls hide this information so it is undtected.

I am thinking about offeing the ability to input your firewall and port for the applet but how many end user will really know this?

Nah m8, if you work for a company that are as security conscious as mine it will never work.

Not worth the hassle

However instead of a dif template a mod for the user to turn off chat in their profile so that the script wouldn't search for the unreachable would be good

I have the changes complete for turning off rooms tab and setting rooms password on my end. I think we are going to roll this into the next patch for the mod.

Once the patch is uploaded you will have to use it in order to turn  those settigns I have placed for you already on/off.

ok I added

&roomstab=false/true

and

&roomspass=yourpassword that can be tacked onto the e.js query in the script.

If you set a rooms password on your room to keep other ppl out of your room add &roompass=yourpasswordinroom

This will automatically input it for your user and ask someone who doesnt use your forum for the password.

IRC protocal does not allow periods in usernames. That would be why it doesnt allow you. These are the acceptable characters
`^-_[]{}

I will see what I can do to make it so that any username can be used but it will take time.

I know it's a little vague but any help appreciated.

yes the paramfile name  will choose what language to deploy. I decided it is best to just use one e.js file rather then seperate files for all languages. This will allow me to update the code easier and make it more usable. omar just make sure  paramfilename=embedded.prm is the last value in the query string and it will work grat for you.

If I am understanding you right you want to link directly to the chat without going through the forums? You can do this a few ways. The code snipet I posted above is the code for embedding the chat o a webpage. there is another paramter  &nick=thenicknamehere you can pass into the code that will automatically sign someone on to the chat. Now if you have avariable liek there is in yabb for a username you can plug it into the value for &nick=thevariable.

I have made the change and asked the user to try again. I will let you know.

Another question: How do I create a text hyperlink for the chat page which automatically adds 'user=fruity_baby' parameter at the end of the line eg:

http://www.colourguardworld.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=chat;user=fruity_baby

This is because I am creating a left side menu. Or am I asking for too much here?

Cheers T.

Just plop the traditional center tags around the applet code. Can prob use <center></center> or <div align="center"></div>

I shared this with another user. The ability to put a button on the page to float the applet.

<form>

<input type=button value="Float" onClick="document.cs.doFloat()">

</form>

Thunderace. Thanks for the reply..I wasn't notified that you had..so..to pick up where I left off.

The url is the same as the one you posted. You can see it at http://www.bucketmonkey.com/forum

I have created a user for testing username: demo password: demo

Once logged in you can see the 'chat' button in the menu.

Check it out.

Thanks.

I have posted questions and been looking for answers. Haven't heard anything back so I just figured that no one had any ideas. That seemed a little odd to me but this was the case.

Basically the issue was that when I added the chat menu item everything went smoothly..meaning the board still worked after the mod..but after logging in and clicking the 'chat' menu item, nothing would happen. Or at least not what I think was supposed to happen.

Basically what happend was that a new browser window opened with the same content in it as the parent browser but the url was different.

As far as I could tell the new url was correct as posted in a reply to me earlier by Thunderace.

So..i removed it since it wasn't working correctly.

if you switch  full.js to e.js in your chat.php it will work in netscape. The reason it doesnt is because full.js uses absolute width and heights and netscape doesnt support that in a table. e.js has a &height=500&width=500 paramaters you can add to resize to your liking and we also have the float button you can put on the page located above in this thread.

I asked goosemoose to drop you a note and help you get it up and running. Has to be something stupid.the problem is you you probably modded your board already and the lines the mod searches for are changed.
So it doesnt work.

I originally did the mod by hand. It went fine. Exactly as the instructions said.

It's just the strangest thing that the chat link in the menu opens a new window with the same content and a different url..or is that supposed to happen? And is there something else that is not happening?

This is a great mod. I have a problem with one user who uses a dialup - I can see him enter the chat room and he seems to get fired off...

Qoute from user "Everytime I've tried with whichever product--it goes thru "applet initialized" and the rest of the sequence--gives me the "ta da" and then I look at the blank screen."

He uses Windows ME with Explorer 5.5 and AOL 8 for dialup connection...

I have replicated this with Netscape 7 - a blank screen after loggin on - others can see me logged on - I can hear sounds - all I have is a blank screen...

Anyone help - please - so I can get this guy on track...

If your browser/computer is set to use Japanese font it should type and display them properly.

I have a greek applet which requires unicode/multibyte chars.

which param file are you trying to use and what js file?

Also if your interested in translating the applet into Japanese and can I have developer take a look to see if thee are any problems on why the applet is not accepting the characters.

One problem I am having brodle is that I can't log in with my nickname which is "C.C." Is this possibly because of the "." - ? Or could it possibly be because someone in the IRC community has the same name? I have created another account just for chatting, but if there is a way around me using my main admin nickname I would rather use it.

IRC protocal does not allow periods in usernames. That would be why it doesnt allow you. These are the acceptable characters
`^-_[]{}

I will see what I can do to make it so that any username can be used but it will take time.

No hurry brodle...
Using the other account is no big deal. Just let me know when you have figured it out.
Thanks.

It seems easy to me. In chat.php find

Code: [Select]
$memsettings = mysql_fetch_array($request);
$chatname = str_replace(" ","_",$memsettings['realName']);

and add after

Code: [Select]
$chatname = str_replace(".","_",$memsettings['realName']);

That will replace all . s in people names with an underscore.

The only remaining issue I have is people names begining with a numerical digit which is also not allowed.
Title: Re:[Done 1.3-1.4.1] Integrated Chat v.3
Post by: bananaman on December 30, 2002, 03:10:32 PM
Now added a couple of lines to prefix names starting with a digit with an "_" so that "1shot1kill" becomes "_1shot1kill"

Add the following:

Code: [Select]
$initialchar = substr($chatname,0,1);
if ( $initialchar >= "0"  &&  $initialchar <= "9" ) {
   $chatname = "_" . $chatname;
   }

after the above mod. Now my users will auto login whether they have an initial digit or a . in their name.

Tested it in my forum and seems to work great.

Hope this helps others - brodle you might want to add this to the chat.php in the download file.

One last thing before I forget.

This is a great mod - but the title bar of your browser will say the url to the page rather than the text "Chat Mod" because yytitle is not declared global.

At the top of chat.php (along with the other global variables) you need to add
Code: [Select]
global yytitle;

Now the contents of yytitle will be displayed in the browser title bar when you view the chat page.

;-)

You would need to modify this line:

Code: [Select]
if ($username == "Guest") { die("Guests are not allowed to enter this area!"); }
to exclude specific groups of users.

For example something like this will check to see if the user is part of a member group and will prevent guests and "regular" members from entering the chat through the forum interface.

Code: [Select]
   $request3 = mysql_query("SELECT m.memberGroup FROM {$db_prefix}members AS m WHERE m.memberName='$username'");
   while ($tmp = mysql_fetch_array($request3))
   {
      if ($tmp['memberGroup'] != ''){
      $specialmember = 1;
   } else {
      $specialmember = 0;
   }}
if ($specialmember = 0 || $username == "Guest") { die("Only Special Members are allowed to enter this area!"); }

NOTE I have not checked this code - just a quick cobble together to give you an example of what could be done.

Some notes on this widget...

Uh, I found the hack to turn off images and use a test link, but shouldn't it just work like the rest of the message board? From the CP?

Clicking the chat link in Netscape 7 caused me to be immediately logged out. Happens every time.

Could there be a README added as a quick-and-dirty tutorial on how to modify the privileges of the first user to open the chat if he/she is NOT a site admin? As it is set up now it seems like non-Admins can make policy, ban, etc. and that really should be reserved to Admins if that is a standing feature of the board. Just saying...

Other than that, very kewl and many thanks.

After installing the mod you should sign on and register the room and setup your moderators in it. Once you do that onyl your staff can police and change settings in the room.

As far as netscape 7 issue is this when you just click on the chat icon in main menu?
Whats the url and a login and pass so we can see.

in the mean time you can set keypass=theroompasswordhere in the chat.php script

and set the password via room options in chat room

New script to display number of users in your room even if its hidden.

<script src="http://www.everywherechat.com/users.asp?room=Lobby"></script>

Just replace the Lobby with the name fo your room. I am working on the list that diplays who is in the room, that will be a bit.. Teaching myself ASP as I go along :)

I was looking at the option of using the text menu for yabb rather than images but when I do this the chat icon does not change to text. So at the moment I would see:

Home | Search | Admin | (http://www.colourguardworld.com/forum/YaBBImages/chat.gif) | Logoff

Can you help Brodle?

I would think that you would just remove the image reference from this code in Subs.php:
Code: [Select]
$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"$imagesdir/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

Maybe change it to:
Code: [Select]
$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\"></a>";

I really don't know but you could play around with it :-\

I just changed the line in Subs.php and all is working great so here is the zip for it.

My users love this..

List of Room Members( I know about the trailing comma, I'm working on that)

One minor annoyance. When someone uses an IRC client to access the room (mIRC for example), the "List of Users" shows them on the yabbse board, however the "List of Room Members" doesn't reflect the correct count.
No biggie, you may already be aware of this :)

I was unable to reproduce this. I loaded up a room with various types of users. 2 users on mirc, 2 on java, 1 on another irc client, 2 on trillian and the scripts displayed them all fine.  if anyone else has this problem let me know.

Step 1. After you isntall the mod log into the chat room. if the nickname you are using is not the name you wan to use type /nick thenickyouwant ( some names may be taken already this is why we use that abbreviation)

Step 2. First register your nickname with the system, double click on it in the right hand members list. A window will open asking for a password and submit it.

Step 3. Click the room option button on the chat interface . It is the second button from the left on the chat applet. This will allow you to register your room and change the various options in the room.

Let us know if we can help further.

This is actually caused by some irc clients (such as trillian) which automatically set their users to be invisible. Not all irc clients will do this.

PostDeals: You will want to edit the subs.php

move the
Quote
$yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=chat;user=$euser\" target=_blank><img src=\"http://www.damien-hs.edu/forum/YaBBImages/chat.gif\" alt=\"Chat\" border=\"0\">";

to after this line:
Quote
if($username == "Guest") { $yymenu .= $menusep."<a href=\"$cgi;action=login\">$img[login]</a>$menusep<a href=\"$cgi;action=register\">$img[register]</a>";

let me know if that works for you.
BUT BUT BUT, you WILL have a problem with usernames since the program grabs the current users name, and yours will all be guest. Meaning that you will only be able to have one guest at a time. I will see about adding guest access to the new version and adding a random number. I'm finishing up the new version right now.

Anybody else interested in this feature, or want any others? Right now I added mod settings in the modcenter for a lot of new options, so let me know if anyone has any others.

Actually if you pass in the nickname of Guest to the chat applet it autosigns the person in as Guest(somerandomnumber)

example Guest34

I assume you could just modify the link to use a javascript popup window call.

In other words what he is trying to say is you need to add something like this to your Sub.php file:
Code: [Select]
            <script language="JavaScript1.2" type="text/javascript">
                  function chatWindow(URL,WindowName)
                        {
                           var newWindow = open(URL,WindowName,"Resizable=Yes,ScrollBars=Yes,MenuBar=No,Directories=No,ToolBar=No,Location=No,Status=No,Width=780,Height=450");
                           if (newWindow.opener == null)
                                 newWindow.opener = self;
                              if (newWindow.focus)
                              newWindow.focus();
                        }
            </script>
            $yymenu .= "$menusep<a href=\"javascript:chatWindow($cgi;action=chat;user=$euser)\"><font size="1"><img src=' . $img[chat] . '</a></font>

Don't take this as exact, I'm sure the yymenu part needs tweeked. Oh and if you follow this example, you'll need a chat button that'll be added to your menu. I have mine set that way and made my own button..

Antoanto,
 You have to have an abbreviation. You are sharing the chat server with thousands of other users. If you do not add it you will end up with nick name collisions and users that will not be able to enter chat. If you are not getting the correct number of users it is because you did not change the script to list your room name.

Hi Nodial, we had this working earlier on in the applet but it was causing problems with all the netscape users so we suggested it be hard coded. If you download version 2.0 of the chat mod you will be able to change the size in the moderator settings of YaBB. Brodle is working on finding another way to make the chat go to 100%, hopefully he will find a way.

the _rw is the abbreviation for the chat room. We added this so that their would be no nickname conflicts because if someone registered jim first you are screwd. i recommend using a smaller two letter abbreviation. You dont have to use any but their may be a chance someone will not beable to use their board name.

Goose any comments?

Does he still get kicked off if he changes his nickname?  It looks like he/she is using a nickname that is reserved on the chat network, or something similar to that.

Not necessarily.  Remember that you are really just using a java client to connect to an IRC network.  Since it is an Autokill, they probably are just checking to see if someone is using the reserved name with just a couple letters attached or something like that.

Maybe some other variations of wiggy would slip past it.
