Title: [Done 1.4.1 & 1.5.X] View/Delete "No Posts" Members 1.3
Post by: Jack.R.Abbit on October 03, 2002, 12:13:52 PM
Adds a link to the Admin to view/delete all members that have not yet posted to the forum.  It brings up a dialog similar to the view/delete members and the view inactive members, but this also shows their registration date and orders them by reg date.  I thought it made sense to see how long they have been registered so you don't delete someone that just registered but has not posted yet.  This sorting could be changed easily by modifying the query statement.

viewnopostmembers (http://www.modsbydesign.com/mods.by.jack/) - updated 09/22/2003

Updates:
10/21/02 - the addition of a "day inactive" column and moving the function to its own source file to keep Admin.php a bit cleaner.

10/29/02 - Added the Select All and Select None links that were requested.  If you have previously installed this mod, just download the zip version and upload the source file, ViewNoPostMembers.php.  No other changes were made.

03/03/2003 - Updated for 1.5.1RC1
03/24/2003 - Updated for 1.5.1RC45
04/22/2003 - Updated for 1.5.1 Final
06/05/2003 - Updated/verified for 1.5.2 & 1.5.3
09/22/2003 - Added column to show memberIP.

Enjoy!

I should mention that be sure to back up your data before applying this, or any, mod.  Everything I post works fine in my YaBB installation but your milage may vary.

Sweetness. ;D Installed it, worked fine, even though I manually changed the files. Went off perfectly. Went through, and deleted members.

Seems to work fine :)

I'm on a heavily modded 1.4.1 board btw, so this seems like it would work on ANYTHING ;D

Only suggestion would be a select all option. Other then that really useful, no more having to go to the database to delete them. :)

One option I would appreciate :

show their last login date.

It could be possible for people to NOT post, but log in frequently.

So you can seperate the ones that once registered and not log in for a long while from those that once registered, and log in frequently.

I now do it manually with something like :

DELETE FROM yabbse_members WHERE posts = 0 AND lastLogin < 1030783040 (i.e. august 30th)

What if the person has always stay logged in set for their cookie? I don't think the lastLogin gets updated everytime they visit does it?
If it doesn't you would probably have to check their logs to see if they are viewing threads or something to truly tell if they were active.

OK.. so I have updated this mod and packaged it up.  It now has a "Days Inactive" column to show how long they have gone with out activity.  It uses the same style lookup as the "View Inactive Members" so it should be right on.  Please read the first post for more info.

Updated. :) Went off without a hitch, once I removed the function viewnopostmembers from my old admin.php. Sweet update ;D

Here it is.....
Sounds like what I'm looking for, but I must have missed something - somewhere along the way.  How do I install it?  I downloaded the zip file expecting to find a "how to" instruction in it.  This would be my very first mod installation.  Is there somewhere a general instruction set for mod installations - or what?

Thanks for your help.  :D

Roy,

All of my mods are created to be used with the PacMan built into YabbSE 1.4.1.  You should be able to find information on how to install via PacMan.  The .zip file just contians the source that is used to create the YabbPak file for those that wish to do the install by hand.  I don't really support (or encourage) hand installation, specially for a novice.  I would suggest that you download the .mod.yp file, place it in your Packages folder on your server and install it via the PabbPak Center in your board Admin Center.  Even easier would be to add my Package server (which can be found in my signature) to your package server list and you can download this, and other, packages directly from my server to the proper package folder on your server.

I don't support BoardMod installations.

Thanks for the prompt response, Jack.  I have been trying to use BoardMod - thus far, without success.  :(

I really appreciate your pointing me in the right direction and now that I have your guidlines, I'll get back to work on installing your mod.  :D

If I encounter any problem(s) along the way, I'll get back to you.

Thanks again for your most appreciated assistance.

Cheers, Roy

I have one query about yabpaks.
They seem to modify the files on the server, this is probably done to ease the amount of work needed by the person who is installing the mods.
Does that then create a different version of a file on the server and the file on the local drive?

If so, how do we find out what files need to be downloaded onto our local to keep things in sync?

It updates the file itself.  Backups are made as filename~.

So, for example, if a mod changes Admin.php - Admin.php will be the changed version, and Admin.php~ will be the unchanged one.

Its a pity the files that need changing/downloading cannot be shown prior to the installation as in Boardmod.
Then backups can be made and the updated files downloaded on the local drive.
I must admit, i do-not have a great deal of confidence in the yabpak system, as I always seem to get an error and cannot do anything about it (no manual install)

The YabbPak mod files follow the same structure as the BoardMod mod files (but have slightly different tag names)  Since BoardMod basically does the same search/replace that YabbPaks do, any errors on one are likely to occurr with the other if what is being searched for just is not there.  It must match exactly for it to be a match, so if you have changed even one char, it fails that search.  From what I understand, it is that way for both systems.

Manual installation is always going to give you more control.  The more you mod your board, the more likely an install will fail.. leaving you to install by hand regardless of which system you use.

For some people, it is crucial to always have their local copy the same as their remote copy.  For others not so much.  I for one work on my board from two different locations so I alwyas need to update what ever I am working on before I start.  Its just the mindset you are in.  If always working locally and then uploading is the way you work then perhaps YabbPaks are not for you.  But you can always download the YabbPak and open it up and install it by hand if thats how you prefer to do it.  I always include a zip version of all the files used in the YabbPak create for just that purpose.

In addition, PackMan does give you the blow-by-blow info as it does the install.  A brief scan of the results page will let you know the files that were modified.  Then you could do a quick download to sync up.  Also, if you do the "test install" first it will give you the heads up on what its about to do if you wanted to back something up first.

I'll look into writing a mod for PackMan that will scan the mod file right after it extracts it to list the files it will modify.

BTW, were you having problems installing this mod?  What error were you seeing?

Hi Jack.R.Abbit
I did get some errors, something to do with file permissions.
I tried to chmod the files but was not given permission by the server, probably because the file was written by pakman.

I'll try again and see waht errors i get and reprt back.
You can see below, in my sig, what mods I have installed.

Done.

Modification would have completed if this weren't a test, so if there were no errors, the mod could be applied, hit the back button in your browser.

Looking at my Admin.php, i have this line:
Quote
<a href="' .  . '?action=viewmembers">' . $txt[5] . '</a><br />
So a simple change would suffice, but I don't know if i can change the $cgi - $scripturl  ??

I have chnaged the admin.php line to reflect the change, eg: scripturl becomes cgi

then run the yabpak:
Quote
Sources/Admin.php
We're going to look for:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<a href="' . $cgi . ';action=viewmembers">' . $txt[5] . '</a><br />

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
String found, I will now add:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                           <a href="' . $cgi . ';action=viewnopostmembers">' . $txt['viewnopostmembers1'] . '</a><br />

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sources/Admin.php, Sources/Admin.php~
Done.

Modification file was applied, Modding was done successfully. Everything should work now.

Ok, Mod installed.
Then I go to my admin center and click on the link to "View/Delete "No Post" Members" and get sent to a URL such as

http://www.mysite.com/;action=viewnopostmembers
which gives me a "file not found"

Final post, promise!!
It seems the
Quote
<a href="' . $cgi . ';action=viewmembers">' . $txt[5] . '</a><br />
will need to be changed to
Quote
<a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=viewmembers">' . $txt[5] . '</a><br />

and the replace/add function that follows needs to reflect the fact that $cgi will not work and should be
Quote
<a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=viewnopostmembers">' . $txt['viewnopostmembers1'] . '</a><br />

I don't know how the others got on with their installation, but i can try this on my board if you want?

GWP,
I see the problem... somewhere along the way they changed $cgi to $scripturl... (the dirty bastards... :) )  I have not been testing the mods against every new build... I guess thats one of the problems when you develop a mod for code that is still changing.  I guess I have a bit more work to do... and I need to specify the latest build it has been tested on.

Thanks and sorry for all the hassle.

Jack R.abbit

Your mod (once changed ) went on fine, even with my other mods.
It doesn't seem many changes need to be made and this is a useful mod as I am sick & tired of having to check through each member to see who is interested in actually being on the forum.

Nice one!!

i'm running 1.5.1 final with PFaBB installed, with very minor mods.

your paks download and install correctly, but none of them actually show up in my admin center once installed.  I'm simply using the YaBBPak center for installation.

Anything i have to do for the mods to actually show up?  I've installed:
uninstall pack mod
view nopost member mod
delete select member posts mod

all installed fine, said they were successsful, but they aren't in my admin center?!?!

The Package Uninstall mod doen't show up.. it just makes chagnes to the Package Manager to allow it to handle mods a bit differently

AS for the others, if it truly installed ok then you should see soemthing like the attached image in your admin area.

Hmmm... hard to tell.  What version of YSE are you using?  I've not tested it on anything but 1.4.1, 1.5.1 and 1.5.2.   Not had time to verify it for 1.5.3.

Also, what trouble were you having with the YabbPak?  Had you already installed the required "Package Uninstall File" mod that is required to install any of my other mods, as noted on my Package Server page?  Just trying to get a better picture of what might have gone wrong.

Thanks.

I am using version 1.5.3.

I tried to install the Uninstall Pack first, that wouldn't install, it couldn't find things it was supposed to in the english.lng file (which were there, permissions were set to world r/w/x). This was via YaBBPack. I wasn't sure how to install the pack by hand, bit I think I figured it out eventually.

I then tried to install the No Posts mod by hand, and found all the word and such that I was supposed to and added everything as directed. It appeared in the menu but when I clicked on the menu I got that error..

is there supposed to be some modifcation to the database? I thought there was a php file to be run but the page resulted blank so I'm not sure if it worked out right..

maybe I'm trying to bite off more than I can chew since it's not really supported for 1.5.3, and maybe I should get to the problem with the uninstall mod first :D

I'll report back with any results after I get the new harddrive in my webserver..

Package Uninstall mod only makes one change and its to Packages.php.  As noted during install, the way I have set it up to work for either 1.4.1 or 1.5.x, it looks for both versions and tries to replace so one of them will fail but if the other is successful, then its good.  It should [edit]not[/edit] have been trying to make any changes to english.lng.

As for the other, there are no db changes.  only adds to the admin menu and then a new source file to handle the function.  But as I said, I've not tried it yet on a 1.5.3 board.  I'll try to do that this week(end).

waldo,
There was in fact an error that popped up when I tested on a 1.5.3 board.  I have corrected the error and everything should work for you now.  If you still have it installed, you need only upload the new source file, ViewNoPostMembers.php.  If you uninstalled it, then you should down load the new package to reinstall.

I find it easier to link people to the package server so they can read any notes I may have and also see the other mods I have.  All my links should point to the package server.  You will find the lastest and greatest there... including this updated mod.

I have seen that a few times but I can't really figure it out.  It only happens with members that have registered very recently... like within 24 hrs of when you view that list.  I think something with the math to figure out time difference is slightly off.  It never bothered me enough to look too far into it.  But I suppose I should do something about it. :)

any idea why its showing 12211 days inactive?
I think that it shows 12211 days inactive when a member has just registered and newer been logged on.... (but I'm not sure)

its still doing it for some people.. I'm willing to bet it has to do with people that haven't logged in, as I talked to a fellow who said he never got the email with the password, so I don't think he logged in at all..

that would explain it..

as for others, i'll have to watch them, too

Why yes, this wasn't the best place to post that, since it's not even related to this thread.:P

Anyhow, there are several threads about this. If you have a .yp mod file, look in the FAQ board for how to install them easily. If you have a .mod boardmod file, you'll need to download boardmod, set it up, modify the files, and re-upload them. That's an outline. I've personally explained in great detail several times and I know others have as well. So I'm not writing it all out again. Search is your friend. ;)

Done deal man!  Download the .zip file.  You should only need to upload the new source file... no need to reinstall the mod or anything.

Not quite sure if this is the right thread, either. I have installed a board mod version of a "view no post members" mod (German version, on 1.5.4) and I do see the entry in the admin center. That's why I assume it is this mod.

However, when I click on "show/delete 0 post members", I get this error:

2: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource
(/www/htdocs/v088994/forum/Sources/ViewNoPostMembers.php ln 70)

Any ideas?

ETA: I just noticed it is the same mod (same author), but version 1.2. Should I uninstall it and install 1.3?

Yes... try an install of the latest version.  I don't remember what was different between the two versions.

Thx Jack, I managed to deinstall it. (The older mod version is on the German mod list.) Might try to install the later version.
